I was so mellowed out from my silent two-hour walk at the Rio Salado Habitat Restoration Area on Saturday, with the Museum of Walking, that I set aside too little time for Art Detour 29 on Sunday. Even so, the works I saw in just 2 1/2 hours were continued indicators of the fertile ground for art in central Phoenix.
Grand Avenue was busier than Roosevelt Row, at least toward the tail end of ArtLink’s three-day showcase of galleries in and near downtown — more open doors, more foot traffic. A sign of things to come as far as which area dominates the art scene? The trolleys were terrific in helping me get from place to place, and the friendly vibe makes me glad the Detour is heading energetically toward the 30-year mark.
Thanks for this snapshot of Art Detour! I suspect Roosevelt Row as an art destination is headed for the history books. It is now so full of apartments and condos there is little room for art ….

I was tempted to call the Row a ghost town, but the bars and coffeeshops were doing well for a Sunday afternoon. Thanks for your thoughts!
